Saxophone Practice Partner
Saxophone Practice Partner is a simple way to make practising pieces for your ABRSM exam more musical, enjoyable and fun.
You can use the app to practise with the piano accompaniment or alto saxophone part in isolation, in addition to the duo ensemble recording. Using Alto Saxophone Practice Partner also helps slow practice, while retaining the musicality of the recorded performance. It's as if you’re practising with your own personal alto saxophone partner!
Alto Saxophone Practice Partner is available for iOS and Android™ devices in both smartphone and tablet versions, from iTunes and Google Play. The app comes with one example piece from Grade 4 of Saxophone Exam Pieces 2018–2021, with in-app purchases available for individual pieces or selections for each grade.

The app will help you to:
- Become familiar with the accompaniment and understand how the solo line fits with the piano part for more secure performances
- Slow down or speed up the music to a tempo that suits you, for slow careful practice.
- Listen closely to the alto saxophone in isolation to hear every detail of the expert performance.
- Repeat tricky passages by setting loops around them.
A guide has been provided where there is a long rest in one or both hands, or where there is a difficult change in tempo. Some pieces do not feature either of these so do not have a guide option.
Due to the intensive realtime audio processing used in Piano Practice Partner, the latest version of the iOS app is currently only available for 64-bit devices. (For a full list of these devices please refer to the iPiano Practice Partner page in Tunes.) We are actively working to expand the range of devices that will be able to access this update and hope to provide more news on this shortly. Please keep checking this page for updates.
The Android version is available for any device running version 3.0 (Honeycomb) or above, but due to the intensive realtime audio processing used in Piano Practice Partner performance may not be optimal on older or less powerful devices.
